What We Do:

Generate U™ is a registered Canadian non-for-profit with a social enterprise soul. It has been designing/delivering evidence based social-emotional learning programs in the Ottawa-Gatineau region since 2013.

We believe young people deserve the opportunity to create a vision of their own futures. Our experiential learning programs promote responsibility for their own pathways. This in turn increases motivation, accountability and confidence. Our programs allow youth to acquire/practice the skills required to shape their life with increased clarity. Students express their own opinions, thoughts and goals, and learn through action/participation.

We use a social-emotional learning framework to build the following core competencies:

  • Self-awareness
  • Self-management
  • Responsible decision making
  • Relationship skills
  • Social awareness

Learning how to understand and manage emotions is an important part of growing up. This has been shown to improve cognitive functioning and success in the work environment. In a broader sense, this also contributes to overall well-being. Current research shows an increase in mental health challenges in school-aged youth. Our programs strive to reduce stress, anxiety and depression and put students on a path to self-directed success. Our programs and approach complement the Ontario education curriculum and intend to increase graduation and employment rates.

Over the years, we have been delivering our programs in numerous neighbourhoods and community centers. We are also currently delivering our Life By Design™ program within careers classes in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB).
